Portable Pool Safety in Austin

City officials in Austin, Minnesota, concerned about pool safety, are looking at requiring people with portable swimming pools to install pool fencing and buy a permit.

Council members indicated support during a Monday work session to require people to install a four foot high fence or barrier around any portable pool that is at least two feet in depth. People also would need to pay a one-time $30 zoning permit fee for the pool and submit a site plan with details on the pools location and its type of fencing or barrier.

If changes are made to the ordinance, anyone who takes down their portable pool for winter and sets it up again would be regulated by the new rules.
