Weekend Pool Safety Events in Northern California

In preparation for the upcoming summer swimming season, the Contra Costa Fire District will hold daylong events in Antioch and Pleasant Hill this weekend to promote pool and water safety.

The safety events are set to begin at noon Saturday at these locations:

Prewett Family Water Park: 4701 Lone Tree Way, Antioch, CA
Pleasant Hill Aquatic Park: 174 Gregory Ln, Pleasant Hill, CA

Survivors of near-drownings will speak, first responders will share stories, and hands-on displays of fire engines and ambulances will be on display.

The events are organized by the Contra Costa Pool Safety Council.

Since 2006, the fire district has recorded eight drownings and 13 near-drownings. That includes the death of a 2-year-old Concord girl who died in June after making her way past fencing around her home swimming pool, which serves as a reminder that constant adult supervision is a must even when the pool seems secure!

In addition to free swimming, planned activities for the events include learning exercises for children and parents, relay races and CPR demonstrations.

If you are in the area and are interested in participating in these free events, more information can be found here: Pool Safety Event
